Astoria has once again brought good luck to Daniele Bitto, a barista with many years’ experience and a barista trainer by profession.
In a repeat of 2014 (also run under the auspices of Astoria) Bitto won last Thursday’s heat organised by the Italian Espresso National Institute (Inei) in Susegana, Northern Italy. His win gives him the opportunity to take part, once again, in the semi-finals of the Espresso Italiano Champion which this year will take place during the 8th TriestEspresso Expo.
The competition was hotly contested by top-level baristas who, despite emotions running high, demonstrated their consummate skill within the canon of Italian espresso. Among the participants, the skills of two contestants in the “under 21” category particularly stood out, and they gave their more experienced colleagues a run for their money.
The technical judge and the sensory panel conferred for a long time before giving their verdict, and, finally, the victorious ally of the Plus4Champions – Astoria’s outstanding competition machine – was announced as none other than Daniele Bitto. Gianni Cocco and Michele di Patrizi, who scored equal points, were awarded joint second place.
