Astoria animates the Trieste Coffee Festival

Saturday the 25th and Sunday the 26th of October, Trieste hosted the first edition  of the extensive Trieste Coffee Festival. Astoria supplied all of its enthusiasm and practical experience as the main technical sponsor of this event meant to promote consumer awareness throughout the public at large.

The event was promoted by Associazione Caffè Trieste, and it involved the entire city of Trieste and its historical cafes. Trieste enjoys heavy volume and has the highest number of pro-capita coffee consumption – about 10 kg per year, double the Italian average.

This is an important chance to bring in final consumers and delve deeper into aspects tied to the quality and tasting of coffee: from the genetics of the bean to habits which are typical to Trieste, even touching on more technical subjects like grinding techniques and equipment maintenance.

The busy square of piazza Sant’Antonio Nuovo is where all the locals meet. This place hosted a big top marquis showcasing the finest delicacies from the sector, and Astoria supplied its machines to the many attending coffee roasters. The nine Astoria machines in use – 7 Pratic Avant and 2 Plus4You models – consumed several dozen kilos of coffee so that the crowds of visiting citizens could appreciate a perfect espresso.

The event also hosted an intense program of cultural meetings and workshops. On the second day Astoria held a seminar on the technology behind espresso, with lectures on the history and trends in coffee and specific focus on how espresso machines work. The conference was held by Flavio Urizzi – Export Manager/Key Accounts Manager – and Paolo Girardi – Head of Customer Service – with help from Astoria’s technical team.

The event took place during the Triestespresso trade fair where Astoria, who was one of the exhibitors at the fair, supplied their machines to many Italian and international coffee roasters and exhibitors in attendance, including the Coffee Board of India.
